Here we take a look at some unusual and highly collectible encased coins. These encased have the coin offset or off center. The coin is moved closer to the edge of the encasement. How close varies. With the encased Morgan dollar above the coin is almost to the rim. With some of the encased below there is more space between the coin and the rim of the encasement.

Offset encased were not common. There appear to be more from early in the 19th century than later. At the top of the page is the only silver dollar encased that I know about. Below is an encased Buffalo nickel. No only is it encased, but the encasement is brass. The nickel sits close to the top edge of the obverse side.

The Stork Club from NYC had a number of offset encased made. I have a 1940, 1948 and 1955. I know that there was one made for 1945. (see Mail Woes for images of a 1945 Stock Club offset cent.) There are images of Stork Club encased cents here. See Stork Club encased.
